Timetable treasure trip
Plan a bus or train trip together using a real timetable, then follow the plan for the afternoon.
Reading a timetable is a life skill hiding inside a lovely afternoon out.
What you need
- A bus or train timetable, printed at the stop
- A watch or clock
- Bus fare and a snack
- A notebook
How to do it
- 1
Choose somewhere two or three stops away.
- 2
Read the timetable together and write down the departure and return times.
- 3
Work out how long you can stay if you take the later bus home.
- 4
Make the trip, with your child watching the clock and telling you when to leave.
- 5
On the way home, work out how long the whole trip took.
