Privacy Policy

Homeschool Club is built for UK home educating families. We take your privacy seriously, especially when it comes to children. This policy explains what we collect, why we need it, and how you stay in control.

Who we are

Homeschool Club (“we”, “us”, “our”) is the provider of the Homeschool Club home education planning app and website. We are the data controller for any personal information you provide when you use our service. If you have any questions about this policy, contact us at hello@homeschoolclub.co.

What data we collect

We only collect the information we need to make Homeschool Club useful for your family:

  • Parent name: so we can personalise the app and address you correctly in any communication.
  • Email address: used for your account, login, password resets, and (only if you choose) our weekly tips email.
  • Child age range: used to tailor lesson plans, activity suggestions, and local event recommendations to your children's stage.
  • Location (postcode): used to suggest home education groups, meet-ups and local events near you. We do not track your precise location.
  • Usage data: such as which features you use, plans you generate, and events you save. This helps us improve the app and fix problems.
  • Payment information: if you subscribe, your payment details are handled by our payment provider. We do not store full card numbers on our servers.

We do not knowingly collect personal data directly from children. Homeschool Club is intended for use by parents and guardians only.

Why we collect it

We collect and use your data under UK GDPR on the following lawful bases:

  • Performance of a contract: to provide your account, weekly plans, lesson suggestions, and local events.
  • Consent: for optional marketing emails, such as our weekly tips. You can withdraw consent at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link or emailing us.
  • Legitimate interests: to improve the app, keep it secure, and respond to your support requests.
  • Legal obligation: where we are required to comply with law or regulators.

How we store and protect your data

Your data is stored securely using industry-standard cloud infrastructure. We encrypt data in transit and at rest, use access controls, and keep systems up to date. Only the people who need access to run and maintain Homeschool Club can see your data, and they are bound by confidentiality obligations.

We regularly review our security practices and will notify you and the relevant supervisory authority promptly if we become aware of a personal data breach that affects you.

Third parties and children's data

We do not sell, rent, or share children's personal data with third parties for advertising or marketing. That is a firm promise.

We use a small number of trusted service providers only where necessary:

  • Cloud hosting and database services (to run the app).
  • Payment processing (to handle subscriptions).
  • Email delivery (to send account and optional marketing emails).
  • Error monitoring (to diagnose and fix technical issues).

Each provider is contractually required to protect your data and may only use it to provide the specific service to us. We do not allow them to use your data for their own purposes.

Data retention

We keep your data only for as long as we need it:

  • Account data: kept while your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove or anonymise your personal data within 30 days, except where we must keep it for legal reasons.
  • Marketing emails: if you unsubscribe, we remove your email from our marketing list promptly.
  • Backups: may retain encrypted copies for a limited period after deletion for disaster recovery.
  • Legal records: we may keep certain records for tax, fraud prevention, or regulatory purposes as required by law.

Your rights under UK GDPR

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

  • Access: request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Rectification: ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Erasure: ask us to delete your data in certain circumstances.
  • Restrict processing: ask us to limit how we use your data.
  • Data portability: receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
  • Object: object to processing based on legitimate interests or direct marketing.
  • Withdraw consent: stop any processing that relies on your consent at any time.

To exercise any of these rights, email us at hello@homeschoolclub.co. We aim to respond within one month. If you are not happy with our response, you can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

Cookies and tracking

We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you logged in, remember your preferences, and understand how the app is used. The cookies we use fall into these categories:

  • Essential cookies: required for the app to work, such as keeping you signed in.
  • Preference cookies: remember choices you make, such as your dashboard view.
  • Analytics cookies: help us understand which features are used, so we can improve the app. We do not use these to track children or build advertising profiles.

You can manage or disable non-essential cookies through your browser settings. If you disable essential cookies, some parts of Homeschool Club may not work correctly.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time as our service evolves. When we make material changes, we will notify you by email or by posting a prominent notice in the app. The latest version will always be available on this page.
