Bean in a jar diary
Sprout a bean against the glass so the roots are visible, and draw it every day for two weeks.
Roots normally grow in the dark where nobody sees them. A jar changes that.
What you need
- A jam jar
- Kitchen paper
- Two or three dried beans from the cupboard
- A notebook
How to do it
- 1
Line the jar with damp kitchen paper, pressed to the glass.
- 2
Tuck the beans between the paper and the glass so you can see them.
- 3
Keep the paper damp and the jar somewhere light but not hot.
- 4
Draw and date the bean every single day, measuring the root in millimetres.
- 5
After two weeks, plant the strongest one in soil and keep the diary going.
