Salt dough fossils
Press shells, leaves and toy dinosaurs into salt dough to make fossils that dry hard by morning.
Fossils are prints left behind. Making one shows exactly how that happens.
What you need
- A cup of plain flour
- Half a cup of salt
- Water
- Shells, leaves, twigs or small toys
How to do it
- 1
Mix the flour and salt, then add water slowly until it makes a firm dough.
- 2
Roll balls and flatten them into thick discs.
- 3
Press an object in firmly, then lift it straight out.
- 4
Leave them somewhere warm overnight or bake very low with an adult.
- 5
Swap fossils with someone else and guess what made each print.
