Tudor street from cereal boxes
Build a row of leaning timber framed houses and talk about why fire spread so fast.
When the upper floors nearly touch across the street, the story of the great fire explains itself.
What you need
- Three or four cereal boxes
- White and brown paper or paint
- Scissors and tape
- A ruler
How to do it
- 1
Cover each box in white paper to make the walls.
- 2
Cut brown strips and stick them on as the timber frame, straight and crossed.
- 3
Make each upper floor stick out further than the one below, as they really did.
- 4
Line the houses up in two rows with a narrow street between them.
- 5
Measure the gap at the bottom and at the top and talk about how fire jumped across.
