Corner shop with real coins
Price up the kitchen cupboard, open a shop and let real coins do the maths teaching.
Change from a pound is the most useful sum there is. A shop makes it matter.
What you need
- Tins, packets and fruit from the cupboard
- Sticky labels
- A purse of real coins
- Paper for receipts
How to do it
- 1
Choose ten items and price each one in pounds and pence.
- 2
Set out the counter and write a sign for the shop name.
- 3
Take turns being shopkeeper and customer with a real purse of coins.
- 4
Work out the total, hand over the money and count the change back out loud.
- 5
Write a receipt for each sale and add up the takings at closing time.
