One week rubbish audit
Keep a tally of what your family throws away for a week, then choose one thing to change.
Data is powerful when it is your own. A week of tallies changes habits more than any lecture.
What you need
- A tally sheet on the fridge
- A pen on a string
- Sorted bins or boxes
How to do it
- 1
Make columns for paper, plastic, food, glass, metal and other.
- 2
Every time something goes in the bin, add a mark.
- 3
On day seven, count the totals and draw a simple bar chart.
- 4
Find the tallest bar and talk about where it comes from.
- 5
Choose one change for next week and repeat the tally to see if it worked.
